To get the most out of your day at Magic Kingdom, preparation is key.
1. Arrive Early (Rope Drop Strategy)
Arriving before park opening (known as "rope drop") gives you a huge advantage on wait times.
You should arrive 30–45 minutes before park opening gives you the best chance to ride popular attractions with shorter wait times. If you are staying in a resort on Disney property you are able will also have early park entry. In reality there are two drop drops, one for Disney guests and one for those staying off park proprty. If you are staying at Disney, I would recommend the first rope drop.
This is one of the biggest Disney World tips that can completely change your day. Imagine accomplishing some of your priority rides prior to crowds building.
2. Use Lightning Lane
Purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass, Single Pass or Premier Pass to help skip the lines so that you have shorter wait times and can experience more of the park. Using Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Single Pass can save HOURS in line throughout the day. Read more with my Lightning Lane Tips & Strategy Guide.
Prioritize:
Seven Dwarf's Mine Train
Peter Pan's Flight
Jungle Cruise
Space Mountain
3. Download the My Disney Experience App
The My Disney Experience app is essential for:
Mobile food ordering
Checking ride wait times
Booking Lightning Lanes
Viewing park maps
Checking showtimes
4. Wear Comfortable Shoes
You’ll be walking 20,000+ steps—comfort is critical! Make sure that you have broken in your shoes. From experience, you do not want to be wearing brand new shoes at Disney. Learn more about what to pack for your Disney vacation with my Ultimate Disney World Packing List.
Your first few hours in the park are the most important. You can accomplish a lot in the morning with the right strategy.
Head directly to either:
Fantasyland
Tommorowland
Fantasyland Strategy
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (Go here first if you don't have younger children) - After riding this you can also hit Tron if you want to ride this roller coaster
Peter Pan’s Flight (Go here first if you have small children)
Winnie the Pooh
Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid - then head straight to it's a Small World and the Carousel when park opens.
Tomorrowland Strategy (Note that some of these rides may not open right away)
TRON - this ride sometimes does not open early, but the line will
Space Mountain
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin (especially since this ride just reopened)
Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover
By late morning, crowds peak—this is the time to be strategic. Wait times will start to quickly grow as more people are entering the park.
This is the perfect time to focus on:
Attractions with indoor queues
Mobile ordering lunch
Lower wait-time rides
Late Morning Attractions
Pirates of the Caribbean
Haunted Mansion
Jungle Cruise
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Lunch Break (Mobile Order Recommended)
Popular quick-service options:
Columbia Harbour House
Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe
Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe
Pro Tip: Eat lunch early (before 11:30 AM) or late (after 1:30 PM) to avoid crowds. If mobile ordering is available, use it! This will save you so much time! Read more with my Best Restaurants at Disney World Guide.
Afternoons are the busiest and hottest part of the day. By this point you will begin to get tired and may need to rest so that you can enjoy the rest of your day.
This is a great time for:
Indoor attractions
Shows
Snacks
Shopping
Character meet-and-greets
Best Afternoon Attractions
Carousel of Progress
Hall of Presidents
Mickey’s PhilharMagic
PeopleMover
Optional Break:
If you're staying at a Disney resort, consider heading back for a quick rest before returning in the evening. Learn about where to stay with the Best Disney World Hotels for Families.
Evenings are one of the BEST times to experience Magic Kingdom. Crowds begin to thin out in the evening—this is your second chance to hit major rides or ride attractions that may have had a longer wait earlier in the day.
Evening Ride Priorities:
Re-ride favorites with shorter wait times
Use remaining Lightning Lane selections
Visit attractions you missed earlier
Don’t Miss: Parades & Fireworks
Festival of Fantasy Parade
Typically mid-afternoon
Arrive 20–30 minutes early for a good viewing spot
Happily Ever After Fireworks
A must-see nighttime spectacular at Cinderella Castle
Arrive 30–60 minutes early for prime viewing
If you don't want to wait or only want to see the fireworks (and not the projections) keep riding rides and watch the fireworks from Fantasyland. I personally like to watch from the Tangled bathroom area.
7:30 AM – Arrive at park (rope drop)
8:00–11:00 AM – Headliner attractions
11:00 AM–1:00 PM – More rides + early lunch
1:00–4:00 PM – Shows, Parades, lower-wait rides
4:00–7:00 PM – Additional attractions
7:00–Close – Dinner, rides, fireworks
Pro Tips for a Perfect Day
Prioritize experiences over trying to “do everything”
Stay flexible—ride closures and weather happen
Keep snacks and water handy
Take advantage of PhotoPass photographers
End your night with a relaxed stroll down Main Street
